About This Place

Located in the heart of Colpy, Culsalmond, Morgan McVeighs is a delightful fusion of a cozy restaurant, a charming gift shop, and a boutique women’s clothing store—offering visitors a truly unique and multifaceted experience. Whether you’re stopping by for a hearty meal, browsing for thoughtful gifts, or exploring the latest in women’s fashion, this warm and welcoming spot is a must-visit destination on any North East Scotland journey.

The restaurant side of Morgan McVeighs stands out for its comforting and soul-satisfying Scottish cuisine, showcasing classic dishes prepared with a homemade touch. From the moment you dig into a Black Pudding & Egg Roll or savor a bowl of velvety Cullen Skink, the flavors envelop you in a warm embrace of traditional Scottish fare. Their menu is a treasure trove of favorites like freshly baked scones paired with a rich latte or cappuccino, crispy scampi and chips, and the ever-popular homemade macaroni cheese served with peas or a crisp salad and golden chips. The weekday specials, including soup with a toastie or a sweet treat for just £8.95, provide excellent value without compromising on taste.

One cannot help but appreciate the inviting atmosphere that Morgan McVeighs cultivates—friendly staff, plenty of parking, and even dog-friendly patios make every visit comfortable and relaxing. As customer Crissy Wil delightfully notes, the small cooked breakfasts offer hearty goodness that satisfies without overwhelming, while freshly baked muffins add a sweet finish to the meal. Frequent visitor Stewart Tough highlights not only the delicious food but also the diverse selection of gifts and clothing that make the visit feel like a mini getaway.

Real passion for quality shows in every detail. For example, Gillian Clark’s experience with the homemade macaroni cheese and scampi and chips reveals the kitchen’s dedication to crafting food that’s “so lovely” and well worth every penny. Even the classics like steak or cheeseburgers and fries come with a homemade twist, elevating everyday comfort food into something memorable. Although there was a rare hiccup reported by David Neill regarding a delayed order, the staff’s usual warm hospitality and efficiency shine through most visits, reflecting a genuine care for customer satisfaction.

Beyond the delicious offerings, Morgan McVeighs’ gift shop and women’s clothing store provide an inviting browse opportunity for travelers and locals alike. The curated selection of unique gifts and tasteful apparel perfectly complements the relaxed dining experience, allowing guests to take a little piece of Colpy with them. Stopped in for breakfast. The small cooked breakfasts were lovely (& didn't feel small!) Great food. We also bought muffins and they were delicious. Dog friendly too which is a bonus!

Often pop in here for a coffee when passing by. Nice food, and a big selection of goods and clothes suitable for yourself or gifts to others. Really nice atmosphere. Staff very nice indeed, and plenty of parking. Well recommended.

I would have to say, a member of staff behind the serving counter, looked and behaved totally interested in his job. All we wanted was coffee and cake, I asked for my apple pie to be heated with ice cream. We were only given a number, as we were sitting outside, after having to ask for one. We waited outside, and after more than 10 plus minutes, I went back to ask about the heated apple pie, the polite waitress had to go find it and a few moments later it arrived. This was Sunday 3rd August about 3pm, the cafe was not that busy. This is not written in malice, only an accurate reflection of our experience, it may not be yours.

Returned here with friends for another go at the afternoon tea. It was still lovely even though inflation had pushed up the price a bit but was still good value compared to many others serving afternoon tea. Really helpful and friendly staff as usual. The only negative points were: loads of wasps at our table and we disposed of at least 10 when there. There was no electric wasp trap; secondly there were no hand towels in the gents toilet and the hand drier didn't work. This was the same last month too. I did report this but ended up asking staff to get some from the ladies. If booking afternoon tea I would get a table away from the door
